Chris Selland, March 6th, 2010 at 4:54 pm, Comments: 0What does the Flash vs. HTML5 debate – over the future of web video – mean to Adobe’s future?

Tech in 2010 – Growth with a Quality Bias
Chris Selland, February 21st, 2010 at 12:07 pm, Comments: 0Tech is poised for growth in 2010 but it’s increasingly looking like a much better year for the well-established and well-respected tech companies, and a challenging environment for the second-tire companies.

Beyond Buzz
Chris Selland, February 16th, 2010 at 7:19 pm, Comments: 0Like most of my online friends, I love shiny new toys, and as soon as I got Google ($GOOG) Buzz I played around with it in Gmail (web and mobile) – and wasn’t overly impressed. It initially struck me as a FriendFeed-esque aggregator of other sources (notably Twitter ($TWIT)) with some commenting capabilities of its own. Last [...]

After the iPad – Wireless Price Wars?
Chris Selland, January 29th, 2010 at 10:04 am, Comments: 0First I should get my opinion on the $AAPL iPad out of the way. Yes, I want one – but I will probably get rid of my iPhone if I do. Lack of multitasking and a keyboard drives me nuts. I want a $GOOG Android phone.
iPad is cool media consumption device, but those who buy it [...] -
What’s Up at RealNetworks?
Chris Selland, January 14th, 2010 at 1:21 pm, Comments: 0Lots of activity in $RNWK this morning as the share price is up ~16% at the time of this post – following yesterday’s announcement that founder and longtime CEO Rob Glaser is stepping down. Investors are clearly seeing this as a path to the sale of the company as Canaccord Adams upgrades them on buyout speculation and [...]

Salesforce going shopping?
Chris Selland, January 12th, 2010 at 11:56 pm, Comments: 0Looks like there’s a good chance my predictions that Salesforce.com ($CRM) will get more aggressive on the M&A front in 2010 are coming true. Fellow Enterprise Irregular Larry Dignan has more details on the $500 million convertible bond issue.
Of course, $500M likely does not a ‘game changer’ acquisition buy, but it can certainly help fund [...] -
Ten Tech Tells for ‘10
Chris Selland, December 22nd, 2009 at 10:34 pm, Comments: 0This is by no means a comprehensive list – it’s admittedly biased toward the tech sectors I follow most closely (software and wireless) – but here are a few companies I’ll be keeping an eye on as we move into the new year – some as short-term opportunities, others with a longer time horizon. If, [...]

Two out of Three Ain’t Bad
Chris Selland, December 17th, 2009 at 5:42 pm, Comments: 03 key tech earnings announcements this afternoon:
Oracle ($ORCL) beats both revenue and profit forecasts and expects the Sun ($JAVA) acquisition to close in January. They also got in some nice shots at IBM ($IBM) and SAP ($SAP)
Research in Motion ($RIMM) also reports a solid quarter including record shipments and increases guidance.
Palm ($PALM) announces higher shipments [...] -
Palm – Going for Volume with the Pixi?
Chris Selland, December 15th, 2009 at 12:36 pm, Comments: 0I was initially skeptical this morning on MKM’s buy call on $PALM, but thinking it through the scenario is at least interesting.
While the Sprint-only ($S) Pre has had a very tough time competing with the iPhone and other high-end smartphones, the newer and lower-end Pixi is being heavily promoted & discounted at Amazon ($AMZN), Wal-Mart [...]

Cloud Storage Pricing – Where’s the Bottom?
Chris Selland, December 8th, 2009 at 4:10 pm, Comments: 0Amazon ($AMZN) and Google ($GOOG) have recently announced dramatic declines in cloud (hosted) storage pricing – what does this mean for smaller providers?
